Juice, Scanned

Juice's Cool List (2008)

im assuming nobody bought this issue of the magazine so i had to scan the pages and show em to yall. :)

anyway, here are the other two pics from the photoshoot which were taken into consideration.
the first one's my personal favorite

Dude got mad skills

The show at Zouk went pretty well i guess except for a small technical error that involved the sound (including all the mics) being cut off. Haha. What a scary moment that was. Kudos to HQA, NBE and Jocular for helping me put on a good show that night although it was obvious that only a handful of the crowd were genuinely enjoying the performance. Most of them were probably just waiting for the Lapsap DJ to get on. :)

Many thanks to my niccuh Ben from Ben's Bitches for interviewing me and writing up the article, also for having me perform. YOU THE MAN!

Wait, i'm not done. Wanna know what's the most awesome thing about the cool list mag?
THIS (click click, then take a look inside the box at the bottom)

WORD. My song with NBE, 'MC' is handpicked by Qumran as one of the 5 songs that "made his year". It's crazy to see my name there alongside Malique, Lupe and Erykah Badu LOL. If you don't know who Qumran is, you're wack! he's a legendary Malaysian producer who's produced for some of the biggest names in the industry such as Too Phat (including Just a lil bit, that song with Warren G), Teh Tarik Crew and Ahli Fiqir. So yeah what the eff this was so unexpected, such an honor for me to be mentioned on dude's page.

More big things to come next year.

For example, MY DEBUT ALBUM. RELEASE IT ALREADY JINNNN.

Update #28738

I'm almost done with the recording of Jinius at Work. Crazy promo should begin early Jinuary. Sorry to keep some of you waiting for so long. i know i should already be changing the banner up there. It says 2008. I'm one year late. Fuck. But i'm tellin ya, it's gonna be worth the wait. It'll be a decent rap album, i promise ya.

Anyway, 2 shows coming up. One as i've mentioned in the previous post (Zouk) and another this Saturday in Singapore. I'll be performing with my comrades SSK for that particular show. So if you're gonna be in the Lion City on the 13th of Dec, i suggest you go watch us rock the mics/stage/crowd. (Contact me for details)

Also, Heezy Rock has been in heavy rotation on X-FM (103.0). It's in the charts and all so go listen! it sounds like a whole new song on the radio! lol

That's all for now.

Pzzack!

The Performance At Zouk + JUICE's Cool List

The Rhymeweaver's The Mixtape Series Vol 1 Review

ok, here's a short review of the rhymeweaver's new mixtape. sorry for the delay mate.

I wanna first say that "The Rhymeweaver The Mixtape Series Volume 1 Music From and Inspired by Classic Literature" has to be like the longest mixtape title in the history of Malaysian hip hop. And just from looking at that same title, you'd know that my homie MC Rhymeweaver's forte is definitely not cash and hoes. As a matter of fact, he is one of the few local cats who i would regard as a true lyricist. To prove this to you, here are a couple of lines from a verse off the said mixtape,

"Yo, it's like Tom and Jerry with a darker twist
Swastikas, yellow stars, racism and marked wrists
Forced into the ghettoes, banned from parks and streets
Hate is sparked and fizzed by race remarks and quips"

(Of Mice and Men)

See, that's what im talking about. These aren't just fillers man. RW managed to do/say so much with just four bars. The whole multi-syllable rhyming thing he does, not many rappers here can pull it off without sounding forced. Heck, i don't think even i can. So major props to RW for that.

anyway, out of the total five songs on the mixtape, my personal favorite would be You Might Have Been, a very touching song even though the kelly clarkson chorus kinda spoiled it for me. Nonetheless, i really like the verses, esp how there's a little heated conversation going on in the third. here's a bit from v2

"you're a blank sheet of paper for the world to write on
so let me do the first words into a really nice song
on the virtues of life, for your moral icon
even though it is short, hope the lesson's lifelong".

my other favorite would be Night of the Deep Ones. this song, fucking perfect, 10/10. the verses are nice, the feel of the beat suits the topic, the hook is sorta catchy but not apple bottom jeans boots with the fur stupid. basically everything's on point. below are a few lines from the particular song

"On my way to the station, i saw the local people
who had large eyes and oval heads and walked like a cripple
i could feel they staring at me, the sensation like needles
there's something in the air, can only describe it as evil"

another track worth noting is Of Mice and Men which some lines i have quoted earlier. i dig RW's part, and the beat. not feeling the other dude's verse tho, whoever he is.

All in all, RW has surely stepped up his game, even in terms of flow and delivery, two areas which he was kinda lacking in on his first effort. RW has a great storytelling ability and is obviously the kinda rapper whose lyrics are worth paying full attention to. The selection of beats this time around is pretty sweet although i wasn't exactly feeling the beat on "Eyes of the World". was too dull and boring nahmean.

If i were to rate this mixtape on the scale of 1 to 5, hmmm. i would give it a 4. not simply because of the songs, but also for the effort RW has put into this mixtape - have i mentioned that RW is one hardworking mafaka?. if you've already downloaded the mixtape, you'd realize that it comes with a lot of other stuff such as the lyrics, artworks, original texts, and even his own personal notes about the songs.

oh yeah, i almost forgot. in one of those misc folders, there's also a preview of his next mixtape entitled "Bloody Hardcore Battle Rhymes", a snippet verse from a song called Necromonicon (apa lanchau ni?) where RW returns to his old self and disses gay people vinnie paz style. just kidding. he didnt. on this track he spits lines like "so fuck your wealth and career, you're just fucking worthless, even the swine's designed to serve some fucking purpose" (niceeee).

...

..

what the fuck are you waiting for?

go and download the mixtape if you havent got it. IT'S FREEE.

what? still not convinced izzit?

oh jap lupa nak bagi link

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD THE RHYMEWEAVER'S NEW MIXTAPE

come on holmes, how many mixtapes nowadays got a concept running through em usually its just a compilation of tracks. for those who are not so familiar with works of literature (such as myself), this mixtape would be educational too.

dont be an ass, download this, its good shit.

big up to RW for this (hustle on playa!), i really enjoyed listening to the mixtape and i'm sure you will too. on another note, i've always wanted RW to be part of the Rogue Squadron, so fuck it here's an open invitation! hahaha. pm me beeotch!

peace!

the future of local hip hop looks a lot brighter now. word.

A Kid Named Cudi

The new mixtape by Kid Cudi, who is supposedly from the same label as The Cool Kids and Kid Sister. Dude is not just a good rapper, he also sings like john legend (get liffffted...ok not exactly) WITHOUT the annoying T-Pain voice effect, or as Apathy would describe, "robot going through puberty". Anyway, i really really really really really dig this shit. been listening to it whole week. there's hardly one track that i can skip pass. Kid Cudi is my new a d d iction, brooo.

my personal favorites

Down & Out
Man On The Moon
The Prayer
Day N Nite
Embrace The Martian
Maui Wowie
Heaven At Nite

"till im gone, make my words important
so if i slip away, if i die today
the last thing you remember won't be
about some apple bottom jeans with the boots with the fur."

Download A Kid Named Cudi

Highly Recommended.

The new Termanology, Politics As Usual is pretty dope too. Production wise especially, with beats from DJ Premier (3!), Pete Rock, Alchemist and more. And as usual, Term comes correct on them tracks, it goes without saying. But is he the "holy resurrection of Pun" that he always self-proclaims to be? I THINK NOT. lOL. Here's a song/mv worth checking out though; Term, Saigon and Cassidy are on it. Such a crazy lineup. Wanna know how ill verses sound? Peep this and you'll sorta get the idea. :)

2. Heezy Rock was played on the radio for the first time last weekend and daymm it sounded good. this thanks to Adly (not the first time he's helped me get my shine). heezy rock was the featured song on the Nokia IAC chart show in which i was interviewed. hope the song makes it into the chart make sure you guys listen to the show this saturday at 10am. there shd be a replay later on the same day/or sunday but sorry i don't remember what time. -_-

Magazine coverage! you might want to get yourself the latest copies of Juice (FREE) and Surf (which you have to pay for) cause your favorite rapper, jin hackman's in em! my crewmate Dwane Chin aka Enemyze interviewed me for internet/gadget mag, Surf (2 full pages!) and Kak Ili featured the Rogue Squadron in September's "Hip Hop" issue of Juice. thank you guys!

Lyrics for Heezy Rock

I met this girl just a second ago
There’s something about her she’s no regular ___
Told her I’m a rock star the name’s Jason Lo
And I drive a sports car did she believe me no
Her body is whoa though, let me rephrase
She’s _______ hot and said she likes my Bittersweet face
In my mind I was like yay I was doing well
But she got to be under that Deja Voodoo Spell
For her to like a dork, wanted to get her a
Stout but I was One Buck Short
So we had a little talk at Laundry Bar and yo
Her favorite T.V. show is Radhi, Study, Go
She loves OAG, prefers TGV over
GSC (Gerhana Ska) in which I Disagree
Cassandra, I was sweating her like an expert
We fornicated at Paul Place’s till the next verse!

Let’s rock, report to the mosh pit
Headbang, crowd surf like you lost it
Till every ______ here is exhausted
Ya’ll go bonkers, hey, I got this
Scream at the top of your lungs
Are we having fun yet? Stomp
Your feet dance around, jyeah!
Get your ___ on the floor
Let’s De La Rocha till we can’t rock no more!

Yeah we got busy, like Hujan’s schedule
But the next day (next day), was nothing sexual
She drank her glass of Chocolate Syrup, then
Told me to pay up, thought she was playing (you gets none)
The _____ went insane, she told me someone’s on the way
She needed me to Meet Uncle Hussein
Then came the ______ along with two backups
He’s this Brickfields Republican with dreadlocks
On his left arm a Dragon tattoo in Red
I asked, “Who is you?” knew I’m gonna end up dead
____ was Nervewreck-in, it was plain to see
That it was me, myself against his Army of Three
I turned to Cass, this your pimp? You’re a prostitute?
She didn’t respond, I thought you Loved Me *Butch*
That was a right hook to my jaw
And so I hit the floor, like oh oh awwh

(Chorus)

I managed to escape them, but there was blood
All over me Seven Collar T-Shirt t-shirt
Ran to the park where Shuvit used to ball
Told them about it, Moots yelled “They Will Kill Us All”
My buddy Ben and his _____ were there benching
Ben just said “chill dawg nothing gon happen”
Told me there’s a gig Tempered Mental’s headlining
Some action going on, smashed guitars, stage diving
I said “alright let’s go”, gig starts at seven
And it’s eleven but yo Butter Late Than Never
There’s Two Sides to a Story and one is told
For the other side you got to go and ask that ___

oh hai, meet my singaporean friends! they're like the nicest ppl ever for real. walked us around for nearly half a day then sent us off to the bus station somemore. w00tw00t!

i can't wait for the next trip to singapore. hope we'd be invited again to perform. :)

Family Affair II in Singapore

this was the flyer, sorry, i know, event dah lepas baru post lol

what can i say, rogue squadron's set went really well, e'one did their thing although i wasn't exactly happy with my performance that day. but it's all good, the sg crowd was awesome they seemed to enjoy every bit of the show but who i thought was on fire were SSK. no homo. anyway, here are some pictures courtesy of lion city's super photographer, mr.36 and our very own kak ili, w00t

omg. what a kickass place to perform at.

yeah, and it really did start at around 5.30pm, mafakas there are punctual!

THE IN CROWD.

eh, almost forgot, we closed our set with a freeze. it was so random. photographers started taking our pictures and shit. i've been trying to look for a decent pic of the freeze where every rs member can be seen, takde pon. nevermind. hopefully, we'll get the video for this. heh.

aah yes, and this would be the host of the evening. freakyz, this guy is straight up comedy man. got us laughing our hearts out haha. he is truly entertaining on stage and also parttimes as an awesome tour guide. oh and i also got his album. there are a few joints on it that i really like.

the mixtape cds that we were giving out for free, the dash underscore dash shirts that were being sold for 7 sing dollars per piece.

rogue squad in the arts house. "we in the house, house, house"- wan.

it was overall a great event. singaporean emcees such as pendekar, bless and the others were definitely holding it down. and dose two as usual, showed great interaction with the crowd and wrapped up family affair II real nicely with another solid performance. highlight of the night for me though was definitely the freeze we (rs) did lmao

Tonedeff's Optimist

I just heard this song today morning, around 4.15AM argh i've been sleeping really early and waking up at the weirdest of times these past couple of days. anyway, here's a live performance of the song, tone however did not perform the full version, he skipped the first verse i think. 'Optimist' is really an amazing song, it is so beautifully written and perfectly delivered and has now become one of my two personal favorites (the other being 'Porcelain') from the man with probably the best flow and lines in the game at the moment. Everyone, and i mean everyone (not just fans of hip hop) should listen to the track, tells you a few important things about life. :) scroll down, i have included its lyrics too for some of you to rap along but who are we kidding, it's fucking tonedeff! you/we'd fail miserably trying to do that. haha. so just read ok. i've even highlighted my favorite bits, i know it's unnecessary and shit but i just couldn't help it lol. enjoy the song!

Lyrics:

Verse:1
Sometimes I hate everyone and everything -- to the world itself/
Even though I'm the portrait of health and been blessed with many things/
Cause when it seems life's beginning to take a splendid lead/
Suddenly, everything tends to lean negatively/
I used to feel my luck was bled from me at seventeen/
Because ever since positive outcomes have been seldom seen/
They tell me that bouts with doubt can self-fulfill prophetically/
And that's prolly why John & Paul said that it's best to let it be/
And I use to be the cat with plenty kinetic energy/
Happy go lucky, Mr. Follow-Your-Dream-And-Set-It-Free/
But over the years, son, I've been jaded to the Nth degree/
I hate it, cause my sense of grief is blatant and my friends agree/
See, people's selfish deeds lead to my bleak expectancy
(Like) If I catch the E, I never expect to see an empty seat/
(Nice) But in typical fashion, this'll pass until my next defeat/
Until I'm stressing deep and forced to beg and plea -- till then we'll sing.

Chorus:
Life is wonderful.
Life goes full circle.
Life is wondeful.

Verse:2
They say I'm a natural born pessamist -- and that's fuckin wild/
Must've come with my mother's smile and father's bullheadedness/
I pull ahead and get pulled back, but I keep struggling/
Son, I feel like I couldn't catch a break beat juggling/
Still I reach upward and on, and proceed trudging along/
As I lead these brothers in arms, to achieve what's in our hearts/
But the scene's shrugging us off, so...
I just remember that every dream comes with a scar when I see something I want/
When it seems nothing is wrong, well -- I gotta keep telling myself to stop/
Waiting for the other foot to drop/
Live in the moment, sit on the throne and just take a look from the top/
It's a whole other perspective to see the good that you got/
Now, if it's an omen, quit with the moaning! Don't let it push you to flop/
That's like being spooked at the doc since you was a baby, still shook from the shot/
Don't imagine a tragic end to the book, when there's not/
You gotta try to rewrite inspite of how crooked the plot.

Verse:3
Now, when you go this long uphill, you lose the will to climb it/
So, I wrote this song to remind me of the silver lining/
In a world this wrong, gotta carry a sword that's strong/
And slice 'em all with smiles, y'all -- I fight 'em as I kill with kindness/
Nobody wants a Bitter Benny or a Debbie Downer/
Or a Sad Sam that be wrapping a wet blanket around them/
Keep a sunny disposition -- Breathe Out/
Cause life has a way of stripping the paint off of your dream house. It's simple./
Indeed these things seem to be easy to see/
But they easily flee your mind as you find repeated deceit/
Now, there's reasons the weak of will never dream or believe/
Before they leap, they concede to defeat and agree to retreat/
Now, when fatigue has really got you by the balls/
Remember that if you really didn't believe you'd succeed, then you wouldn't have tried at all/
So, jump regardless of the consequence/
Cause even on the night of the apocalypse, everybody's an optimist.

Bridge
No matter how hard it seems.
There's always someone in another position.

So, when it rains, just hold on.
When it's gray, just hold on.
When there's pain, just hold on.
When it rains.

And when it rains, think dry skies.
When it's gray, think bright lights.
When there's pain, just smile, smile.
When it rains.

Verse:4
I know it seems everyday is a struggle to keep yourself outta trouble/
This modern jungle is jumbled with muddled puzzles to stump you/
And snipers gunning to stumble you, like you've been hunted/
Dude, how the hell are you telling us 'Life is wonderful'?/
Some of you have come to conclusions/assumptions, But nothing as true or stunning/
That misery becomes something that's comfortable/
Trumping the will to shun it. Run from it if you're stuck in a rut or two/
So, I figured I'd drum up something I could hum to you.
(Like this).

(taken from Tonedeff's offical site)

damn. i wish i could write liddiz.

yeah, go find the song. now.
