Shout! Awards was amazing. Rogue Squadron rocked the house with the least amount of gimmicks. We spent probably only a total of RM 135 on the performance. Let me break it down for you:

It was one helluva show. We hit the stage at around 630pm, right after a Capoeira performance and rocked shit for 25 minutes - our longest and probably best performance yet as a group/rogue squadron. On stage with me were Jocular, Mushroom Buttons, NBE, HQA, WordsManifest and Shazet the beatboxer. The crowd even though not as huge as the one at night were very responsive and looked like they really enjoyed our set. and trust, we as performers had lotsa fun too. Big ups to our friends/crewmates who were there at the front row supporting us; Alif Omar, Boss Chan, Liana, Sara, Icky, Kelsey, Shalene, etc. And even those who were misinformed and only came 2 hours after my set - naim and dment, thanks for coming anyway!

Alif was too excited that he forgot to record and Kevin (Ben's Bitches cool ass hypeman) 's handycam ran out of battery towards the end of Ben's Bitches performance. here's a picture

Yours truly was on national TV last month! Thanks to Yz i got to be on MHI (Malaysia Hari Ini), TV3 for a short interview and a two songs performance. Together with me were NBE and HQA and fuck yeah we rocked that shit even though i heard that the first song (still hip hop) sounded like i was doing an acapella cause the beat was played at such a low volume. ill try to get the footage from TV3 soon cause so far the only footage we have is a 2minutes clip of the second song, MC which was recorded on Alif's handphone. and he doesn't have the proper cable to transfer the video to his PC. LOL. Oh yeah by the way we chilled with Norish Karman at TV3 she's so hawt wtf. passed her a copy of my cd too not sure what she thinks of it hahaha she likes the album cover though said that it looks 'raw' woots

Where was i again? Oh right, Sunburst. Sorry about the lack of updates i've been really busy with University and whatnot. Anyways, the show at Sunburst went down pretty well although it was my first time doing drum n bass and the crowd wasn't that big since our set was right after Korn's so most people had already left. i had lotsa fun nonetheless. This year's Sunburst ain't as good as last year's where there were The Roots, John Legend, Incognito, etc etc etc but it was still dope nonetheless. IMO, SUNBURST 2009=KORN. watching them perform A.D.I.D.A.S. live was orgasmic! NERD did their thing too. I liked the part where Pharell temporarily stopped the show to screw an annoying photographer. Niice.

It's Jinuary, 2009...

So my campaign has officially started.

For New Year's day, what i have for you'z the Jinius At Work album sampler - which you can hear playing on the site right now (or you can always go to the myspace page). Hope it'll get you a little excited. Hope you like what you hear. If you don't, let's just say the sampler is only a sneak preview of 6 songs, out of a total of 14 tracks on the album, so you might still be able to enjoy the other half of it! :)

Secondly, there's the video of my Xfm interview which was recorded just about 3 days ago. I'm only posting up the 'free verse' part at the end though cause i don't think you'd wanna watch 10 minutes of me answering interview questions in funny Chinaman Malay. Also promoted the Bombshelter event (refer to one of my previous posts) which you should make time to check out. It's going to be one helluva show.

The show at Zouk went pretty well i guess except for a small technical error that involved the sound (including all the mics) being cut off. Haha. What a scary moment that was. Kudos to HQA, NBE and Jocular for helping me put on a good show that night although it was obvious that only a handful of the crowd were genuinely enjoying the performance. Most of them were probably just waiting for the Lapsap DJ to get on. :)

If you don't know who Qumran is, you're wack! he's a legendary Malaysian producer who's produced for some of the biggest names in the industry such as Too Phat (including Just a lil bit, that song with Warren G), Teh Tarik Crew and Ahli Fiqir. So yeah what the eff this was so unexpected, such an honor for me to be mentioned on dude's page.

I'm almost done with the recording of Jinius at Work. Crazy promo should begin early Jinuary. Sorry to keep some of you waiting for so long. i know i should already be changing the banner up there. It says 2008. I'm one year late. Fuck. But i'm tellin ya, it's gonna be worth the wait. It'll be a decent rap album, i promise ya.

Anyway, 2 shows coming up. One as i've mentioned in the previous post (Zouk) and another this Saturday in Singapore. I'll be performing with my comrades SSK for that particular show. So if you're gonna be in the Lion City on the 13th of Dec, i suggest you go watch us rock the mics/stage/crowd. (Contact me for details)

Also, Heezy Rock has been in heavy rotation on X-FM (103.0). It's in the charts and all so go listen! it sounds like a whole new song on the radio! lol

The Rhymeweaver's The Mixtape Series Vol 1 Review

ok, here's a short review of the rhymeweaver's new mixtape. sorry for the delay mate.

I wanna first say that "The Rhymeweaver The Mixtape Series Volume 1 Music From and Inspired by Classic Literature" has to be like the longest mixtape title in the history of Malaysian hip hop. And just from looking at that same title, you'd know that my homie MC Rhymeweaver's forte is definitely not cash and hoes. As a matter of fact, he is one of the few local cats who i would regard as a true lyricist. To prove this to you, here are a couple of lines from a verse off the said mixtape,

"Yo, it's like Tom and Jerry with a darker twist
Swastikas, yellow stars, racism and marked wrists
Forced into the ghettoes, banned from parks and streets
Hate is sparked and fizzed by race remarks and quips"

(Of Mice and Men)

See, that's what im talking about. These aren't just fillers man. RW managed to do/say so much with just four bars. The whole multi-syllable rhyming thing he does, not many rappers here can pull it off without sounding forced. Heck, i don't think even i can. So major props to RW for that.

anyway, out of the total five songs on the mixtape, my personal favorite would be You Might Have Been, a very touching song even though the kelly clarkson chorus kinda spoiled it for me. Nonetheless, i really like the verses, esp how there's a little heated conversation going on in the third. here's a bit from v2

"you're a blank sheet of paper for the world to write on
so let me do the first words into a really nice song
on the virtues of life, for your moral icon
even though it is short, hope the lesson's lifelong".

my other favorite would be Night of the Deep Ones. this song, fucking perfect, 10/10. the verses are nice, the feel of the beat suits the topic, the hook is sorta catchy but not apple bottom jeans boots with the fur stupid. basically everything's on point. below are a few lines from the particular song

"On my way to the station, i saw the local people
who had large eyes and oval heads and walked like a cripple
i could feel they staring at me, the sensation like needles
there's something in the air, can only describe it as evil"

another track worth noting is Of Mice and Men which some lines i have quoted earlier. i dig RW's part, and the beat. not feeling the other dude's verse tho, whoever he is.

All in all, RW has surely stepped up his game, even in terms of flow and delivery, two areas which he was kinda lacking in on his first effort. RW has a great storytelling ability and is obviously the kinda rapper whose lyrics are worth paying full attention to. The selection of beats this time around is pretty sweet although i wasn't exactly feeling the beat on "Eyes of the World". was too dull and boring nahmean.

If i were to rate this mixtape on the scale of 1 to 5, hmmm. i would give it a 4. not simply because of the songs, but also for the effort RW has put into this mixtape - have i mentioned that RW is one hardworking mafaka?. if you've already downloaded the mixtape, you'd realize that it comes with a lot of other stuff such as the lyrics, artworks, original texts, and even his own personal notes about the songs.

oh yeah, i almost forgot. in one of those misc folders, there's also a preview of his next mixtape entitled "Bloody Hardcore Battle Rhymes", a snippet verse from a song called Necromonicon (apa lanchau ni?) where RW returns to his old self and disses gay people vinnie paz style. just kidding. he didnt. on this track he spits lines like "so fuck your wealth and career, you're just fucking worthless, even the swine's designed to serve some fucking purpose" (niceeee).

eh, almost forgot, we closed our set with a freeze. it was so random. photographers started taking our pictures and shit. i've been trying to look for a decent pic of the freeze where every rs member can be seen, takde pon. nevermind. hopefully, we'll get the video for this. heh.

aah yes, and this would be the host of the evening. freakyz, this guy is straight up comedy man. got us laughing our hearts out haha. he is truly entertaining on stage and also parttimes as an awesome tour guide. oh and i also got his album. there are a few joints on it that i really like.

'Optimist' is really an amazing song, it is so beautifully written and perfectly delivered and has now become one of my two personal favorites (the other being 'Porcelain') from the man with probably the best flow and lines in the game at the moment. My debut album, Jinius At Work will be posted up for download tonight at around 10pm. yes, you've heard it right. it's gonna be an online release. the reason for this is because i've gotten tired of waiting for all the tracks to be mixed and mastered and to avoid spending more money ill just put the album up on rapidshare, yousendit, zshare, etc etc for everyone to download. yes, it will be absolutely FREE so please, do get your hands on the album cuz im telling you, it's like the best local hip hop shit ever, even if half the tracks on it arent mixed. there will be 21 tracks in total, including one intro, outro and a skit.

Monster Maker by Sharkey and C-Rayz Walz

Another Def Jux release, a solid 12track album that shouldn't be slept on because it's simply toooo fresh. I'm listening to it for the second time now while typing this post out, and there hasn't been one song which i do not like. Monster Maker is just my kinda ish - great rhyming, awesome production, catchy singing hooks - it's almost flawless. I find myself nodding to every song in this mafaka. I somehow also feel that C-Rayz has improved tremendously as a songwriter on this collaborative project with hip hop producer, Sharkey from babygrande records. Sharkey's hard ,fun ,energetic beats help make the album appeal not just to underground rap listeners, but to possibly anyone who constantly keeps an ear out for good music. Not to be compared to your typical rap album tho because MM has a lot more to offer than just that. There's nothing more to say except you gotta go get this album immediately. i don't care how, just get it get it

Half A Klip (2008)- Kool G Rap - Never really was a fan of him, but damn this album is dope to me.

I Can't Feel My Face (Juelz Santana and Lil Wayne) - i aint gon lie, this one sucks ass lol don't listen even if you happen to admire lil weezy as much as i do =[

PWTC was crazy, like yo, how often do you get to see 9 mafakas on stage at the same time?! rogue squadron were rockin it, 7 songs in total, we had to take turns with the mics since there were only 4 of em. nonetheless, it was a pretty good show everyone did they thing knawmean. there was quite a huge crowd, and they were awesome too, very participative even tho they weren't exactly hip hop and shait. thaz what im talking about. much love to them. also a big shoutout to those who went all the way to pwtc to watch us perform! thank you so much for the support. i'm sure we didn't disappoint. :)

A Good Start for 2008.

Why? cause i'll be performing for the first time after 1year+ not once, but TWICE this month of january, with my group Phalanx on both ocassions. need to get warmed up before i could go solo in front of a crowd, anyway the first event will be happening this weekend,

it's the youth'08 thing you guys have probably heard a lot about (started yesterday, three days long) we'll be rockin' on sunday, at pwtc, between 3-6pm not sure what time exactly. oh, the entire rogue squadron will be getting on stage so be sure to come check us out. hannah tan is gonna be there so why not you?! maybe this time i could get a REAL picture of hannah tan with my sticker on her. =D oh yah and the next show for phalanx would be at this annual petronas street basketball event, next sunday (27/1) one day after my b'day. so if you're going for that, do go with expensive presents for me. ahah just playing. it's gonna be a 20minutes slot i guess.
